Newport vs Port Vale
Sky Bet League Two
3:00pm Saturday 7th September
Rodney Parade
(Att: 3913)
Jamille Matt came off the bench and scored to earn a 1-0 victory over Port Vale to Newport.
Matt’s close-range purpose means the Exiles are unbeaten in League Two and just two points behind leaders Exeter.
Vale survived some heavy pressure and might count themselves fortunate to have 11 men heading in at half-time after James Gibbons slipped into Robbie Willmott using a late night, full-blooded challenge.
Matt and Corey Whitely were released from the bench and combined to split the breakthrough .
Before crossing the ball to score his first of the season after 77 minutes whitely surged down the perfect wing, leaving Adam Crookes in his wake.
Vale captain Leon Legge then draged down in the box the Exiles striker however Padraig Amond saw his penalty saved by Scott Brown, diving.
Legge hit the bar with a header in added time however Newport saw out the game to keep their unbeaten start to the season.
