Warrington Wolves survived a courageous fightback to claim a 23-16 victory and secure their position.
As they led 16-0 in half-time the Wolves appeared to be well on their way to victory at at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, but a rally from the visitors saw them double decrease the deficit to four points.
Steve Price’s men ended their six-match losing streak in Super League due to tries from Bryson Goodwin Daryl Clark, Ben Currie and Josh Charnley while Stefan Ratchford kicked three goals and Dec Patton added a drop target.
Wakefield claimed attempts through Ben Jones-Bishop Morgan Escare and Ryan Hampshire and recorded 2 goals in Danny Brough. However, the defeat ensures that they face an all-important showdown at home to London Broncos next week and remain in the relegation struggle.
Blake Austin returned to the Wolves side after a four-week absence with the shoulder injury that forced to him miss the Challenge Cup final win over St Helens, while Chris Hill, Mike Cooper, Patton and Toby King came back to the side after missing out the reduction to Salford Red Devils five times after their Wembley heroics.
Wakefield made four changes for both sides that lost 24-16 in the home with Joe Arundel, Jordan Crowther, George King and Titus Gwaze coming to the side for Bill Tupou, Anthony England, James Batchelor and Chris Annakin.
The visitors had given a great account of themselves dealing with everything and forcing two dropouts the Wolves were throwing them.
But after all their ancient good work that they pressed on the self-destruct button when, on the last tacklethe ball slipped through Danny Brough’s hands and Jacob Millar was forced into a hurried kick that went out to the complete, gifting Warrington possession 20 metres from the Trinity line.

However, the momentum was lost with a different mistake after they lost possession inside their own half as Ratchford and Austin joined to ship Goodwin in at the corner, and the Wolves again took complete benefit.
Hampshire crossed to give Trinity hope again as his effort produced it 20-16 but a Ratchford penalty along with a Patton fall target eased any nerves and observed that the Wolves to victory.
