In 2014, DJ Mag launched the Top 100 DJs Foundation, set up to harness the influence and reach of the poll to support worthy causes. In 1992 Smokin Jowas named the number one DJ by the magazine editors and she is still the only female DJ to have ever won DJ Magazines highly coveted DJ of the Year award. This new technology is opening a new frontier for DJing that will deeply impact how DJs can mix in the years to come, and felt like the natural companion this year to the world’s leading DJ poll.
2020’s Top 100 DJs has opened for voting in a very different world stricken by the coronavirus pandemic. In 2019 more than 1.3 million votes were cast from 179 different countries, cementing Top 100 DJs position as the world’s biggest publicly voted music poll.Last year, Belgium brothers Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike took the No.1 spot, de-throning Martin Garrix after 3 successive No.1 placings. Notable releases include a remix of "Rap das Armas", "Selecta", "Go Hard" and "Fatality".

The 100 DJs with the most votes make the final ranking. Top 100 DJs; Alternative Top 100 DJs; Top 100 Clubs; Top 100 Festivals ... DJ Snake. Teaming up with UNICEF for a fourth year, this time around voters in the Top 100 DJs poll will be able to contribute to the charity’s coronavirus emergency response fund. In the past, the poll was more representative of the vital role of people of colour, but nowadays it appears whitewashed. In a demonstration of the global reach of the Top 100 DJs poll – and dance music in general – votes have so far been counted from 217 different countries including unlikely dance music markets like Vatican City, Chad and Syria. Viewers of the Virtual Festivals and poll voters will be invited to contribute, and to date participants have raised over £70,000 for UNICEF, helping to vaccinate 815, 175 children around the world against deadly diseases.

It’s that time of the year again when voting for the DJ Mag annual Top 100 DJs poll is open. To date Top 100 DJs has raised more than £70,000 for the organisation. Increasingly an international affair, with voters from 179 countries participating in 2019 and 1.3 million individuals getting involved, the poll has become a yardstick of public opinion and global dance tastes — as well as the subject of fierce debate among fans of rival DJs. Dance music as we know it was created by Black people in the US and UK; without the contributions of artists like Derrick May in Detroit, Marshall Jefferson in Chicago, or Smokin’ Jo and Grooverider in London (plus countless others), we wouldn’t have a scene at all. VirtualDJ will be visible across the voting process and social media results reveal, and DJ Mag will be producing exclusive video content to be released in the coming months. 612,000 verified votes have been recorded so far, all but equalling the previous record set in 2019.Although selected venues and festivals across the planet are beginning to open their doors, the vast majority remain closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now in 2020 DJ Mag can announce a dedicated China voting platform – It is now a decade since the Top 100 DJs Awards Ceremony relocated from London to Amsterdam – originally in a successful partnership with ALDA and latterly (AMF) – which has allowed up to 40,000 people to witness the crowning of The World’s No.1 DJ on the main stage each year.
